When you contact us, whether by telephone, e-mail or in person, Clare Casson is the first person you’re likely to meet. As well as handling initial enquires and reception duties, Clare looks after payroll, bookkeeping, company secretarial work, client administration and our time recording system. Clare joined us in 2006 after first gaining her NVQ in Administration and is currently studying for additional accountancy qualifications.

Janine Kelly graduated from University with a BA (Hons) degree in 2005 and joined us shortly after. She is responsible for accounts production, bookkeeping, VAT work, CIS processing and administration, company secretarial work, and our internal accounts. Janine manages our client systems and is responsible for creating many of them. She also carries out client liaison and troubleshooting, and is currently studying for her AAT qualification.

Co-founder of the business, Ian Knox is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 30 years in practice. On a day to day basis Ian is responsible for accounts production, tax matters, client liaison, and the business mentoring side of the business. He also lectures on financial matters to new businesses, and provides assistance to developing businesses. Ian is a founder member of the local BNI chapter, which promotes its members businesses by word of mouth marketing.

Last, but certainly not least, Connie Knox is co-founder of the business. She is responsible for overall planning and strategy of the business, as well as being involved in sources of financing.  She has a number of NVQ’s to her credit, and a lot of common sense. Sometimes the best strategy we can suggest is the most obvious!

All our services are designed to ensure that you pay the correct amount of tax – not too little, not too much – just the right amount. And at the right time.

We start with the end in mind, and then work with you to plan ahead. So tax advice is an integral part of all our other services.

If you need any other tax advice, perhaps as a stand alone query, we can provide that too.

Although two separate aspects, if you use the bookkeeping service then the VAT is calculated as a direct result. Filing of the relevant VAT return is then made simpler, and we can attend to this for you.

If you want us to prepare your VAT return from your own records, we can do that too.

We work hard to ensure that we don’t duplicate our effort or your money, and our bookkeeping service links in to our accounts preparation service for maximum efficiency. So no duplicated fees!

If you employ staff, we can perform the PAYE operation quickly, efficiently and cost effectively, thus freeing up your time to concentrate on what you do best.

Our costs are menu based, so you can easily calculate what your investment will be.

We can process weekly, two-weekly, four-weekly or monthly, depending on your requirements, and we can also suggest ways to improve your payment system and cost.

One question that we‘re asked is ‘What is the role of an accountant?’ Put simply, we’d say it’s to facilitate you to achieve your stated goals, specifically, but not exclusively, in financial matters. For you, once a year might be sufficient. Or quarterly, each time your VAT is due.

But perhaps you’d benefit from more regular meetings, advice, action plans, and performance monitoring. Maybe even an opportunity to ‘bounce-off’ some ideas or concerns. That’s where our financial (business) mentoring service comes in.

Consider our own journey so far:

Knox Accounting was started in 2000, and in the early years it occupied various rooms in the founders’ home. After taking on our first employee in 2004, we moved into a purpose built office – actually a converted outhouse, and still at the founders’ home. In September 2006, we moved to Waterside House, following a major refurbishment. Since then we’ve gained new clients, taken on extra staff, and moved into different areas of business, that make full use of our individual and combined qualifications, skills, talents, and experiences.

During the past ten years, we’ve had the privilege of working with many interesting people, attending courses, seminars and networking events that have helped shape who we are and what we do today. We’ve benefited from financial and other assistance from a range of business professionals, and because of that we’ve developed a unique network of associates and contacts who complement what we do, and have been able to help us achieve our stated goals.
